We are committed to hiring Indigenous peoples and supporting career growth and development at BMO.

OUR COMMITMENT

Our inclusion goals include a focus on increasing Indigenous representation to 1.6% of the workforce across all levels..
We have committed to ensuring that 40% of student opportunities are directed to Black, Indigenous and People of Colour.

Attracting Indigenous talent

We have doubled Indigenous hiring during the pandemic and our aim is to sustain and grow representation across all areas of the bank, including in Technology and Operations, working towards our goal of 1.6%. In line with our commitment to increase Indigenous representation in our Canadian workforce, we launched on-reserve employment hubs where Indigenous employees can remain close to their family and communities while working at BMO.

Miikana (mee-k-anaah) Career Pathways Program

Miikana is the Ojibwe word for ‘pathway’. More than 1 in 3 Indigenous employees are enrolled in the Miikana Career Pathways program. This program provides one-on-one career coaching and support for Indigenous employees newly hired as well as existing employees through tailored career and development planning, including career/cultural mentorship, sponsorship and ‘buddy’ pairing opportunities. This program has increased retention threefold and new opportunities fivefold, with over half of participants having clear career development plans.

Indigenous partnerships

We are breaking down employment barriers through our recruitment initiatives, partnerships with Indigenous educators and participation in programs that support Indigenous Peoples.
