Our commitments to Indigenous customers, colleagues and communities

We are taking steps to support progress for First Nation, Inuit and Métis Peoples and to deliver on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Call to Action 92. We engage with Indigenous Peoples across three pillars – Education, Employment and Economic Empowerment – that rest on a platform of zero barriers to inclusion for all. Check out wîcihitowin ᐑᒋᐦᐃᑐᐏᐣ (pronounced ‘wee-chih-hito-win’) to learn how we’re partnering with Indigenous communities in Canada to support economic reconciliation.

Our Enterprise Indigenous Strategy

Education
Through our eLearning program, Nisitohtamowin ᓂᓯᑐᐦᑕᒧᐃᐧᐣ, and the BMO Sharing Circle Employee Resource Group, we are committed to our learning journey.

Employment
We seek to recruit top talent from all communities, including Indigenous communities, and create a welcoming, inclusive environment for Indigenous colleagues.

Economic empowerment
For more than 30 years, our Indigenous Banking Unit has contributed to the economic growth and empowerment of Indigenous communities across Canada.
The Indigenous Advisory Council guides our strategy
In 2020, BMO established and formalized the role of the Indigenous Advisory Council (IAC), comprising Indigenous representatives from across Canada. Learn more about the IAC’s mandate and members:
We are PAIR GOLD certified
We’ve been recognized with a three-year, gold-level Partnership Accreditation in Indigenous Relations (PAIR) by the Canadian Council for Indigenous Business (CCIB) seven consecutive times, signaling to communities that we are a good business partner, great place to work and committed to prosperity in Indigenous communities.
