Deborah Anne Baker (K’ana)

Deborah is currently serving her fourth term as a Squamish First Nation Councilor. In this capacity, she chairs the Nation’s Economic Development Committee and the Yuustway Health Committee. She also participates on the Health, Child & Family Services Committee and the Governance Committee. Deborah resides in the Xwemelch’en community.

Before assuming her role as Councillor, Deborah worked as a business development officer with Indigenous entrepreneurs, promoting economic development in community. She also has experience in the financial industry, having worked as a small business/personal loans officer.

Deborah is a strong believer in lifelong learning and knowledge sharing. She was introduced to the United Nation Indigenous Peoples Permanent Forum in 2007 and supports Indigenous peoples around the world in asserting their rights for equality, fairness and prosperity.

Deborah is appointed to be the first IAC Co-Chair, elected to this position by her peers on the Indigenous Advisory Council.
