BMO Commitments to Indigenous customers, colleagues and communities
BMO is committed to progress for Indigenous peoples across three pillars that reflect the Truth & Reconciliation Commission (TRC) call to action for corporate Canada: education, employment and economic empowerment.
Indigenous Advisory Council
We are the first bank in Canada to have established an Indigenous Advisory Council comprised of First Nations, Métis and Inuit leaders from across Canada that guide and advise BMO on each of these three pillars.
Making tomorrow better
We believe that corporate social responsibility is about human connection and is a journey best travelled in partnership with our community partners. BMO has committed nearly $16 million in multi-year donations and pledges to Indigenous causes with almost half of that dedicated to Indigenous scholarships and awards. Other recent, notable contributions include Thompson Rivers University, The Minnie’s Hope Social Pediatric Centre, Indspire Scholarship, and St. Paul’s Foundation of Vancouver, BC. We also partnered with IAC members and Indigenous communities across Canada to provide PPE supplies to First Nations, Metis, and Inuit northern communities.
7th Gold-Level ranking for Partnership Accreditation in Indigenous Relations
Our relationship with the Indigenous community runs deep. The Canadian Council for Indigenous Business (CCIB) has recognized BMO with gold-level Partnership Accreditation in Indigenous Relations (PAIR) three-year certifications for our approach, which is closely aligned with the pillars of the PAIR program: employment, business with Indigenous peoples, procurement and community investment. We are the only bank to have achieved this level seven consecutive times.
Sharing Circle – BMO’s Enterprise Resource Group supporting Indigenous colleagues
BMO’s Sharing Circle Enterprise Resource Group cultivates a culture of inclusivity that allows us to learn from differences in ways that celebrate our people and grow our business. Founded in 2015, the Sharing Circle has grown to over 800 employees from across Canada who advocate for Indigenous issues with a membership comprised of Indigenous employees and allies.
